Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

 

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

WHAT WE DO

Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. Our 35,000+ clubs work together to:

  • Promote peace

  • Fight disease

  • Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene

  • Save mothers and children

  • Support education

  • Grow local economies

We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES OF ROTARY

The objectives of the Rotary are to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the following:

​

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintances as an opportunities for service.

  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and profession; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life.

  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, good will and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.

  • Is it the truth?

  • Is it fair to all concerned?

  • Will it build good will and better friendship?

  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

ROTARIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

The following code of conduct has been adopted for the use of Rotarians:

​

AS A ROTARIAN, I will 

  1. Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life.

  2. Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupation with respect. 

  3. Use my professional skills through Rotary to mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people’s quality of life in my community and in the world.

  4. Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians.

TEN WAYS TO DESTROY YOUR CLUB

  1. Stay away from meetings.

  2. If you come find fault.

  3. Decline offices or appointments to committees.

  4. Get angry if you are not nominated or appointed.

  5. After you are named to a committee, do not attend meetings.

  6. If you do come to meetings, do not speak until the meeting is over, then tell how things should be done.

  7. Do not do any club work if you can avoid it, and when the old reliable pitch in to get the work done, accuse them of being a busy body.

  8. Oppose all new programs as being a waste of members money.

  9. When nothing new happens, complain that the officers lack imagination.

  10. Read your club bulletin only now and then complain that you do not know what is going on in the club.

TEN MARKS OF A GOOD CITIZEN

  1. He is well informed on local and world affairs.

  2. He is courteous, unselfish, friendly, gets along well with others, is a good neighbour.

  3. He is sincere, dependable and takes an active part in the church or religious community of his choice.

  4. He appreciates what others have done for him and accepts responsibility for the future betterment of his community.

  5. He is fair and just in his relation with others.

  6. He obeys the laws of his community and nation.

  7. He votes regularly and intelligently at election times.

  8. He is interested in the freedom and welfare of all the world’s people and does his part to secure them.

  9. He is productive and renders a worthwhile service to his fellow men.

  10. He sets a good example for the youths of his community.
